MEET
KIMMY HUSSEY
Hussey's paintings explore the space between observation and imagination. Her practice encompasses dreamlike abstraction, vivid landscapes, and playful still life, all brought together through a bold use of colour and strong form.
Hussey's work reflects a distinct colourist approach, translating emotion and a sense of place into tonally layered, luminous compositions. Her paintings evoke both intimacy and expansiveness, balancing atmosphere with abstraction. She works en plein air along Cornwall's coastline and beyond, as well as from her studio above the Penwith Gallery in St Ives.
Educated at Leeds College of Art and the University of the Arts London, she continues to build upon Cornwall’s rich artistic heritage, contributing a fresh contemporary voice to its ongoing dialogue between landscape and abstraction.
Her background is in set design for screen, having worked across Bollywood, Hollywood, and the British film industry. This experience gave her an understanding of composition, storytelling, and visual aesthetics, skills that naturally transitioned from designing for the frame to creating works on canvas.
Her work has been exhibited at the Penwith Gallery, Cambridge Contemporary Art, St Ives Society of Artists, Bayspace St Ives, Sarah Wiseman Gallery and The Summerhouse Gallery in Marazion. Throughout 2026/27, Hussey is also leading a series of limited workshops at the historical St Ives School of Painting.
