Meet Kimmy...
British contemporary painter Kimmy Hussey works from her studio above the Penwith Gallery in St Ives, where she creates paintings that explore the space between observation and imagination. Her practice spans dreamlike abstraction, vivid landscapes and playful still lifes, all unified by a bold use of colour and confident form.
Hussey’s work reflects a distinctly colourist sensibility, translating emotion and atmosphere into tonally layered, luminous compositions that evoke both intimacy and expansiveness.
Educated at Leeds College of Art and the University of the Arts London, she continues to build upon Cornwall’s rich artistic heritage, contributing a fresh contemporary voice to its ongoing dialogue between landscape and abstraction. From 2026, Kimmy will tutor a series of limited courses at the prestigious St Ives School of Painting.
Her work has been exhibited at the Penwith Gallery, the St Ives Society of Artists, Bayspace St Ives, The Summerhouse Gallery and Cambridge Contemporary Art. Her most recent paintings were developed during a residency on the Isles of Scilly in summer 2025, and she is currently preparing for a solo exhibition at the Penwith Gallery in the new year.
